whitesaab. On both my '86 and '91 there are hex ends on the filter itself. I have never had a problem, after soaking with PBlaster, with putting one wrench on the filter hex end and a second on the banjo bolt itself. Repeat for the other end. From your description of damaging the filter and reference to an oil filter wrench it sounds as though your filter doesn't have the hex end(s), or perhaps to dark/gunk'd up to see?
