I work at a SAAB dealer and it is not uncommon for the techs to inform me that it could cost 400-800 just for parts to rebuild a classic 900 box.
Add labor and bits and pieces and you could buy yourself a nice 98 NG t-5, tune it for a grand and be done.
Don't get me wrong-I LOVE my 90 spg, but know its' limitations is in the heart of it all-so, it is what it is. To pay a quarter of what you car may be worth on the open market for a gearbox is just not where I am at.
I mean, tranny rebuilds are just guys picking pieces out of a bin, not unlike your local church bingo. My last trans was out of 900S, and I figured it couldn't be that bad with not turbo, drove it around for awhile,pulled it and put it in my spg.
