C900 reverse gear pinion lever redesigned by anyone? Posted by Walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Walt) on Sun, 25 Jun 2006 11:23:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Does anyone know of a redesign of the C900 5-speed tranny reverse lever that pushes the pinion onto reverse gear on the output shaft. I've seen posts about flipping the lever over and moving 8mm washer to other side, but this doesn't appear to gain much. Seems like Saab has designed lever conservatively to prevent pinion accidentally catching reverse gear, resulting in limited length of pinion tooth mesh with reverse gear and lots of broken gearboxes. Lengthening reverse lever, tightening up all its holes/slots, and offsetting 8mm washer hole 4mm towards the pinion would give a bit more (5mm) reverse gear tooth engagement. Adding a small spring to lever would help prevent pinion accidentially catching a tooth when pinion is retracted without pulling ball out of its detent position on selector rod when extended. Has anyone ever tried this? Or it this just asking for trouble?
