For $1400, it BETTER blow cold, or I'd make the mechanic drive around with me with a bag of ice and a fan.
Did they change the hoses to the 134 type? 134 hose has a plastic barrier liner, to keep the 134's smaller molecules from permeating the hose. The 134 will work with the r12 hoses for a while, but will eventually leak out, needing a recharge.
I don't understand why this is one of the most expensive fixes for Saab owners, there are only 4 or 5 components to the whole system. Even if you are ignorant to how the AC system works, you can always take the advise of twinsaabs, and just replace eveything, it doesn't cost that much. I guess the problem is the AC techs want to make a fortune off of using their vacuum pump, guages, 4 cans of refrigerant, and an actual ½ hour's worth of labor. For $1400, you may be able to buy all of the components AND the tools to do the job.
