it's totally irrelavent. Driving costs money one way or another, you can make payments or you can make repairs. In your case the real question is how much driving you'll get to do for how much money. With a cars like this you need to take the Anarchist's Cookbook aproach to repairs not the gold plated new car standard you are apparently using. I don't know who quoted you $1400 on your brakes but RUN as far and as fast as you can.You can get pads and rotors at NAPA or just about anywhere, and with a shop maunual it's about a twenty minute job per axle. Anything else the brake system needs is a used/wrecking yard parts situation. If you can't do it yourself you need to find a mechanic on the "other side of the tracks" who works on imports. Most Saab repairs aren't rocket science. Fix only what you absolutely have to only when you aboslutely need to. If you take it easy, the clutch can slip for a long time. The head gasket can go for years with enough stopleak. It's not a 55 T-Bird and it's next stop will probably be the bone yard. Do as little as you can as cheap as you can and you might just be surprised how long it'll last. My son had a 9000 that was leaking a quart of transmission fluid a week. He drove it like that for 90,000 miles and never did fix it.
