No time interval for light. Airbag light comes on anything in the system fails. Most likely is the "clock spring" in the steering column that connects the bag to power. Next is sensors and connections. Airbag failure is rare.
First thing I would do is check the clockspring. Keep ignition off for several minutes or better yet, disconnect battery negative cable. Then loosen four #30 torx screws on back of steering wheel and lift airbag up and unplug, set aside. For the first check, you don't have to remove the steering wheel.
There is another airbag connector plug running along the column from the back of the clockspring to the airbag controller. I think you might have to remove the lower and upper plastic column covers, to see an orange connector. Unplug this and with an ohmmeter check for continuity between the corresponding wires of the lower orange plug and the plug that went into the back of the airbag. If you don't get continuity, it's time to replace the clock spring assembly. I'd give Jim at sobstory a call and see if he has a used one 800-583-0370.
The clockspring is behind the steering wheel and you remove the nut holding the wheel and pull the wheel off. you might want to leave the nut on loosely so that the wheel doesn't hit you in the face when you pull hard on it.
