that the drag (and the fast that you're pushing the hydraulic fluid through the tight spots in the hydraulic system) is probably a huge part of the extra effort when the PS pump dies. It was a bear to steer my SPG when the PS belt broke, just like it was in Josh's car.
On the other hand, I had a '56 Chrysler that had non-power steering, and the effort wasn't all that bad.
