Mounting anything close to the OEM dash location be it the OEM 4's or tweeters like where the OEM option kit put them sounds like complete crap compared to down below the dash. The location directly infront of the occupants + the way the windshield throws the sound makes for a poor soundstage. I am not meaning that it will not be clean it's just when there is depth or sounds coming from 10 feet to the right of the passenger tire this setup will not be able to reproduce that :(
I honestly have never put speakers in the A pillar however if you go to a local SQ stereo shop I HIGHLY doubt they will suggest putting them there. The only way I feel it could image OK was if they are as low as possibly on the A pillar. If it's high up I would bet that you will only hear the tweeter that's close to you :(
Door mounts are OK however under the dash is the best location. The kick panel area produces the best sound & if your brother really wants a SQ setup, install a 5.25 or 6.5 inch component set down there. I have pics of my install if you would like to see it
