That depends on what year your 900 is. The standard procedure is to open the hood and look inside. You have now checked for the engine.
Intermittent ons and offs of that light either mean an ignition system fault (blinking light) or an intermittent fuel system fault. This injection system, as opposed to the OBD-II junk, has the capability to turn that light off after the problem is fixed and attempt to re-adapt.
