You'll be surprised and gratified at how solidly and thoughtfully the cars were put together. With a couple of rare exceptions (Alternator bolt, turbo oil return line nuts), old 900's are very easy to work on. Parts are surprisingly inexpensive and readily available; the available reference manuals can be purchased used online and are exhaustive in their scope and detail. Most importantly, the collected intelligence and experience found here is truly unequaled by that of any other marque in both accuracy, depth of knowledge and most accurately, friendliness and eagerness to help. I unwittingly stumbled into Saab ownership and involvement in the Saab online community; with the passage of time and dabbling in other makes, I've come to realize just how unique and excellent it is.
As for the cars themselves: a 79-94 900 is not an inherently troublesome car at all. Mine have been uniformly excellent. That said, the newest classic 900 is 12 years old now; an old 900 can take a huge amount of neglect and still stay on the road, unfortunately, this can mean that rejuvenating one which has been abused can be a long process.
Good luck finding one you like, and welcome!
