I bet not many cars have to tolerate the re-entry temperatures that NASA worries about. Tires are combustible if there's O2 nearby.
Maybe NASCAR uses it because, y'know, it's like rocket science so it MUST be faster. Actually, with small-ish road wheels dictated, their brake ventilation isn't the best. Plus they use their brakes harder than most people.
Still, PV = RT whatever gas is used. I don't even really buy the moisture bit. Do you think that they mount tires without using soapy water to seat the bead?
