Wiring for speakers...

So, when I redid the wiring on my 91 turbo, I saw that the speaker wires are all on a harness on the stereo with 2 wires a piece. I was looking at adding more speakers in the car (2 in the door panels, or right in front of them, and either 2 more in the back door panels, or a sub and amp combo. BUT, I have a bunch of extra speakers lying around and I was wondering if there is a way to add them to the system. Do you just splice them into the wiring harness wires or do they have to be hard-wired to the stereo. These speakers are simply placement tests, but I would like to know how to add more speakers to the sound system...
Thanks a lot..
