Noisy oil pump problem solved! Update...

I pulled the oil pump today to finally get to the bottom of my noisy oil pump problem. The timing cover, pump housing, and gears all looked perfect. When checked with a straight edge and feeler gauge across the housing, the gears were withing spec. BUT, when I held the outer gear stationary and tried to move the inner gear back and forth...there was a considerable amount of play! So one inner surface of the pump housing was badly worn (with no scoring).
It's amazing that some play in the gears could cause that awful noise! The engine is now back together, and purring smooth. Yay! After over 2.5 years building this car, I can finally enjoy it!
