with both the head and trans in place. I agree with pjkbrit that the stud is a good place to start to get it out. Because you have to slide it in though, any sealant you apply will be near-quantitatively scraped off when reinstalling it. It's tough to reseal even one face when the head or trans are off but both?? You should consider biting the bullet and pulling the engine.
