The battery can die overnight.
If you had a dead or dying alternator, you would not have made it past Cleveland, no matter what kind of battery was in there.
Check that the green wire (small diameter, black insulated connector) is connected to your alternator and that the connection is free of corrosion.
Check that the alternator warning light (battery symbol) lights up with the ignition switched on and the engine not running (two clicks on the ignition key).
Check that the same light stays off when the engine is on. Turn down all the other lights and be sure it does not glow faintly.
I'm amazed how many used car sellers can't spit out the $35 to put a new battery in a car.
If they knew the battery would not hold its charge overnight, they probably had it on a charger until you picked the car up so it started fine then, and on your long drive back the alternator would keep it basically charged, but then when you got back it will just bleed itself dry overnight.
You may also want to check the current draw experienced by the battery with the car off and locked and everything switched off. Don't forget the dome light.
