anyone had any experience with extracting the PS pump on a right-hand-drive 900? i just replaced the one in my aussie '85 900 aero, and after i finished reassembling everything i had to take apart, i'm thinking there has to be a better way!
the pump was leaking badly from the back, so i got hold of a spare. then i started looking for info in haynes (it's from the UK, right!) and some other boards that might have right-hand drive info. came up with nothing, so i just got down to business.
problem one: the steering rack is in the way (steering column is on the PS pump side!). didn't see any way around this, so i unbolted the works.
problem two: it still wouldn't come out. i was at a loss, so i unbolted the pump from the bracket. still stuck in there, but with the rack out of the way the pump dropped down and was sitting on the exhaust front pipe.
problem three: drop the front pipe, or jack up the engine? i figured i could undo the right motor mount and jack up the engine to gain clearance, but since it was almost out i quickly undid the exhaust and out came the pump.
i put the new one in the same way, but reattaching the bracket to the pump in situ was no picnic. thoughts from any right-hand-drivers out there??
thanks,
robert
