I forget what I paid for mine last summer, but it seems that new cats are commonly available for $80-160. I put a new one on when I did my exhaust system (one of those "while you're there" items). The added benefit is that the old catalyst was a boat anchor compared to the new one.
Also note that the new ones I've seen tend to be an inch or two shorter than the old ones. No worries. The slip joints where the muffler pipe attaches to the straight pipe have plenty of room to slide, at least on the Starla exhaust that I used from Eeuroparts.com
While you are under there, make sure that the downpipe bracket exists and is not loose. My local indy told me that Saab put those on for a reason so don't take it off if it rattles.
