87 manual tranny / 87 automatic donor? Posted by SaabDude [Email] (#370) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SaabDude) on Thu, 8 Mar 2007 18:32:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello all, as I'm 99.9% a V4 guy, here goes...
I probably already know the answer is no but I'll ask anyway.
My beautifully immaculate 87 900 SPG-style Turbo Convert (5-speed) has been dead since November. Symptoms: low oil pressure, mechanical knocking in lower part of engine, no power.
After towing it to my mechanic, they looked thru the flywheel inspection cover and saw "the slightest bit of movement in the flywheel" and surmised that the lower part of the engine is "bad". Well, it's now March, and the $1500 bucks I had saved up to fix the car--has all but been spent on other, more necessary things.
Searching elsewhere around town, I found a shop that just by luck has an 87 900 turbo (automatic) possibly donor car. I know that in the 900 the engine sits "on top of" the transmission, and they become one unit or something.
QUESTION: Is it possible to use the "lower end" of the engine from this parts car to fix mine? (crankshaft/ short block / parts?)
Thanks, Saabdude here in lonely non SAAB South Texas... :-(
