Thanks all;
We recently did a full tune up & I gave my little brother a 20 oz btl. of Techron for Xmas...but I don't know if he ever used it - I'll ask. He's in TX now visiting a friend after being suckered into flying to CA only to discover that the 84' 900t (he likes those 84's) w/45k on Craigs List actually had closer to 200k...live & learn.
There's no AMM or FPR (other than the shims in the fuel distributor) on the old CIS setup - the less people that know this, the older I feel!
I have another APC from the 83' turbo we got the engine & trans from...I'll check the harness & swap it in! I've got the injectors from that car too - I'll soak em' in some solvent & try them afterwards w/more Techron. I've actually been meaning to swap in the APC from my 85' turbo...same wiring & location despite being an LH 2.2 16v car - Gary at SD told me it will provide an extra couple of psi over the 84' APC & I've already procured an 88' APC w/harness to splice into my car, which will allow easy upgrading - but I digress.
I seriously hope the knock sensor is the culprit - consider it yanked...though, I seem to recall doing this at some point. Oh well, I'll do it again!
The wastegate is outwardly fine - no real testing done, the car, me & my tools are seldom in the same place lately. The actuator rod is still properly attached, though I shortened it several turns back when 'we' got the car in 1997...I'll put my mity vac bleeder on it to check the diaphragm, but if I tore it it sure took a long time to cause a problem! How long does a wastegate vac actuator typically last?
All hoses are in good shape & properly connected. I'll check for blockages, but that seems unlikely. What's an "MBC"?
No one has any thoughts regarding using a 16v turbo distributor vacuum diaphragm?
