i did replace all that, and repacked the oil pump and replaced the gears with ones in better shape. i just dont want to spend the 200$ on a crank sensor - have already spent alot on other parts. what i replaced was
- new head gasket
- alternator bushings
- oil pump gasket
- crank seal
- power steering bushings
- thermostat w/ gasket
- replaced cracked timing cover (in car!!!)
- timing chain w/both guides
- timing chain tensioner
- new belts
- intake manifold gasket
- some radiator hoses
- coolant pump gasket
- throttle body gasket
etc....
so there was a lot of work done - from what ive read the distributor based hall sensor is more reliable and less prone to failure than the crank sensor (if it works...) its away from heat and oil dripping and easier to access, not to mention easier to replace (heard you can just replace the hall sensor for cheap by rebuilding the distributor.) this may be a waste of time if it doesnt work but if it doesnt i will just have to go in and take the crank pulley off a again.....
