leak in fuel line - 1991 900

Greetings to fellow saab enthusiasts!
After smelling gasoline for a few days on my 1991 900S, I discovered I had a leak near the fuel filter. I replaced the fuel filter only to discover the leak is in the fuel line coming out of the fuel filter. This fuel line snakes into the back of the car and runs all the way to the engine.
Because the leak in the fuel line is only inches from the filter, I was wondering if I could cut the line and then reattach the banjo fitting. The banjo fitting does not look like it could easily be reattached, but Eeuroparts.com/Saab does not currently sell replacement fuel lines with the bajno connectors attached. And if I could simply snip the end of the line and reattach the banjo fitting, it would save having to take out the carpets, etc.
Thanks for any advice!
-Steve
