Bert,
I have not had much luck with split boots. My C900 requires a rather short length boot and the split boots I have found scuff against the body frame under tight turning. I place two 3/4" oak wooden shims between the bottom of the upper A arm and body frame and jack up the car. This keeps the wheel from dropping down when the car is jacked. I cut off the outer boot and spray out all of the dirt and garbage from the joint with cv cleaner, disconnect the steering arm, and the two lower ball joint bolts which connect the ball joint to the lower A arm. I then remove the circlip which holds the axle into the CV joint. The wheel can now be pulled out, rotating and held by the upper ball joint. Slide on the new boot, put the wheel back onto the axle and secure with the circlip. Repack cv joint with gease and fasten the boot up. If dirt did not get in there you are all set....
