I ran over a truck tire carcass several months ago and put a crack in the bottom of my tank.
I tried different tank repair kits from the local parts store, but no joy. I also tried a fiberglass patch, no joy.
I managed to repair it, but first had to drain the tank to stop any drips. I then cleaned the area around the leak with carb cleaner to remove all grim, etc. I made a patch out of 100 mph tape and used JB weld to hold it in place. Used the "sets in 5 minutes" type of JB weld. After it dried, I applied another "coat".
BTW, 100 mph tape was what we used on our helicopters to repair minor holes. They didn't go much faster than 100 mph, hence the name. The tape looks like thin aluminum foil, but sticky on one side.
It's been several months and things are ok, no leaks. I do plan on replacing it with one from a donor at the junk yard, but first have to take care of the bosses projects.
