i think the Bentley our Townsend site says to keep them in correct location due to 'wear patterns' but heck when you are swapping cams and/or heads there's no point, so dont worry about it. i also wondered about the effect of swapping cams on the cam bearing caps but no-one's mentioned how critical that is to keep the same caps with the same head, so bleah just do it!
when i put in the NA intake cam and 85 exhaust cam on my 2.1L head upgrade (engine had blown HG) i actually sucked out the old mayo mix out of each follower - gross to the max but it wasnt as bad as siphoning gas..
