I had a similar problem on my 93TC with a post and much advice about a year ago. I tried a can of Wynn's oil treatment. This is the thin, solvent type of oil treament made by a number of aditive people rather than the thick, stop oil burning type. The theory is that the solvent will disolve any varnish buildup in the lifter oil passages and within the lifters themselves. I'm not ususally in favour of a "repair in the can solution" but it seam to be worth a try and it worked. The noise went away after a few days and has not returned.
