Had this problem with my '91 900S. Turned out to be the crank sensor, located behind the pulley.
The sensor cost about $230 with org. Saab connector or about $ 90 in the splice in version. However, since you have the problem after changing the airfilter, it might be the airflow meter,
located above the airfilter box. It that connection is bad the engine would not run either. Good luck!
