Hopefully it didn't happen at 75 on the highway! - that's what happened to me years ago.
The plug is for the ignition system (hall effect sensor) inside the distributor. Mine rotted and cracked, allowing the very thin wires to touch the distributor body - quick melt=no run. I suceeded in soldering the wires back and rebuilt the plug and then wired it to distributor with thin copper wire. It beats paying for parts or finding them in the first place.
If the wires are intact you are very lucky; if not good luck on getting them soldered. It's like that old operation game stepped up 20 notches. I guess there are hall sensor kits that you could throw in instead but I chose the hard route. Once the wires are fixed the car should run fine - make sure they are not touching the metal body of the distributor or they will eventually fry.
Let me know what you're dealing with.
