Amelia, Don't despair too much about this sound. Used cars always need some attention to bring it up to par. Sounds like some "belt" dressing" might work! Also, Open the power steering fluid top and use a turkey baster and remove as much power steering fluid as you can and then add a bottle of "LUCAS" brand power steering conditioner. There is also a idler pulley that, on high mileage car, usually needs replacement. It will spin for quite awhile before expiring. I just replaced mine before it went completly. Even if this pulley goes when driving, there's isn't much to worry about since it only drives the AC compressor. If the pulley goes, the belt will just come off since its the last belt on and the first belt off. This mean it won't interfere with anything. Chirping sounds like a belt that just has some glazing on it. I still have that strong feeling you just purchased a real gem. You can do this fix yourself with the "Lucas"power steering and the "Belt" conditioner. I told you if you ever make it to the Delaware beaches, Stop by and meet my wife and I and I'll be more than happy to go over your car just to help you and show you what to look for in maintenance. Your even welcome to stay with us if you want and we can show you around. I've been working on my own cars for over 25 Years and others cars. I feel that everyone should learn to do some maintenance on their own cars. Feel free to call for any question anytime. Paul & Jamie Clifton---home 1-302-945-8668 cell-1-302-945-8668. Have a safe trip and check the tire pressure before you go! Four high mileage Saab's and still going strong!
