If the fuel distributor plunger is not sticking and everything else works, this sounds to me like a failed pressure accumulator. This part is located under the car in the rear axle tunnel. To troubleshoot it, you need to have a mechanic hook the car up to a fuel pressure gauge and measure the rest/residual pressure. If that drops, either your fuel injectors are leaking after shutoff, you have a line leak somewhere, or the accumulator is toast.
The fuel pressure regulator these folks speak of is not used on 8 valve 900s. The check valve on the fuel pump may be the issue, but also it could be a clogged fuel filter as someone else said. It's also possible that the warm-up regulator has failed internally (leading to the wrong operating pressure). Do you have a Saab or Bentley or Haynes repair manual for the car? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? Have you checked the oxygen sensor output to see what the mixture is?
