I had an '88T-- it had been offered free as parts car but needed only minor repairs so I made them and sold it-- but I have to admit that I couldn't keep my foot out of it.
I have an 88 NA, and had it at the time. Sure, I gave thought to selling her, instead, but it's more than just a little like a relationship between two humans: sure, it's fun, and especially at first, but after a while (I SUPPOSE) the thrill goes away, the body and drivetrain go to hell, and what are you left with? A few happy memories of early times and some vibrant recollections of driving her as hard as she'll go... but then it ends.
Bitter arguments and cross words; beer cans thrown across the room to stop arguments of "what's wrong with you?", pleading moments like "Remember when you used to boost into the red?" and finally she says "DON'T start anything, I'm not in the mood!"
So the 900T and I parted ways, my '88 NA and I are still together. Sure, she has 375,000 miles on her and may not make it to 400k, but it's not for lack of effort. I just ride her slow and easy, get her warmed up before doing anything daring, and you can tell that she remembers.
