91c seat rebuilding questions

My 91se convertible's major shortcoming were the seats. I need good supportive seats, and a previous owner must have been too heavy for them and they are no longer supportive, and the support features rotted out and it lost it's effectiveness. I took out the driver's seat to do some work on it. (Don't worry; I'm driving it with a sparco seat in it while I'm working on it.)
The first photo shows three notable things. First the burlap is rotted right out. I think this probably provides some of the support to the seat, correct me if I'm wrong. What should I replace this with when I get that far?
The out of focus tubing in the center of the photo shows the cracked sleeve for a motor shaft, meaning one of the motors isn't doing things as well as it should.
The third item is the metal clip on the rightmost portion of the wire support piece. Is this a standard sort of clip? It appears to be a J-clip exactly as used in the lobster trap building trade. (Don't ask me how I know), and we are in Maine, so I'm thinking the seat may have been rebuilt already if this is not a stock part.
Is the motor control switch module interchangeable left-right? I have an identical switch module from a 9000 seat, but it's on the other side seat. Maybe I should convert to non-motorized? Seems the seats do not have memory settings, having them powered is just an expensive complicated rube goldberg method of moving the seat around.
