The most likely scenario is an exhaust-baked passenger inner driver failure in progress. Some will swap them side to side, others will repack with grease and it goes away for 70k, so it all depends on how far gone yours is. This will manifest itself as a driveline vibration over 45 miles an hour or so in any gear that smooths out by 70ish, only under moderate to high torque.
Good to hear you don't expect a car of that age and era to be perfect. Just work your way through one issue at a time and in no time it'll be better than new. You've got an elderly 99, so I assume you understand the importance of changing your fluids regularly. For new cars, I pay particular attention to the gearbox lube, then move on to the engine oil, brake fluid, fuel (injector cleaner followed by a filter change) and then coolant and PS fluid. '89 was a mighty fine year, keep it in good shape!
