AU,
I see, that might do the trick. Swapping an engine onto your transaxle is a lot easier (less work) than removing, rebuilding and replacing an engine. Get a hoist, lift out the unit, separate the engine from the trans. then "Assembly is the reverse of dis-assembly" except that you use a different engine. There is so much support available, here on this board and elsewhere, that if you have patience and some skill you can almost certainly do that job. If all you intend is to swap engines, and not freshen anything up (most of us take the opportunity) then it's a piece of cake. The hardest elements are usually getting the taper pin out of the shift shaft and sometimes the ball joint bolts are rusted in place. The engine harness looks intimidating but you just unsnap all the connectors, and lay it back. When it's time to re-connect it you'll see that you'd pretty much have to make an effort to put something where it doesn't belong. Unbolt the AC compressor and carefully lay it back on the passenger fender, no need to open the system. Unbolt the power steering pump from the engine and just let it lay back too. Remove the radiator so the swinging power plant doesn't hit it. (If your steering rack is bad this is the best time to deal with that.) Patience is the key to success. Just be sure the new engine is OK before you go to all this work or you'll be kicking yourself. If the new engine was on top of an automatic trans. don't forget to swap the oil pick up tubes and replace the o'ring. Cheers
