Unfortunately I found myself in the same situation.
see http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=370645
after the ins co had me deal with 4 reps all of whom lied to me repeatedly
they said that their apraiser had come up with a value of 2k for my car, (the apraiser said to me he had never seen one nicer)
anyway I told their last rep that was bs and that we needed to come to a reasonable agreement. she kept repeating that I had no choice but to accept their offer since I was not their customer I had "no arbitration cause since I had no contract with them, and if I should have gone through my own ins co " I told her that this left their policyholder in a very exposed position cause there was no reason I should not sue him personally, especially since I thought he was a dumb$#%. I asked for the apraisal info, so they sent it to me with a check for 2k and totaled my car. I guess the old saying "if the other persons ins co has "farm" anywhere in the name, dont even talk to them, just sue"
