My convertible top is made of a canvass-like material. Vinyl tends to be waterproof by itself, but it will be glossy and plastic-like also. Then again, I haven't heard of any 900 Cs that came with white tops so yours may have been altered down the line.
I used a kit from Griot's "WouldYouPLEASEStopSendingMeCataloguesInTheMailAlready" Garage that had two steps. The first was a spray-on, wipe-off cleaner that dissolves any gunk you had stuck in there, as well as the old protectant. Then there is an aerosol protectant. It doesn't work as incredibly well as what was on there (standard Scots Guard?) and they recommend redoing it every year, but it does the trick. Mask the paint below your spoiler bits to keep the overspray off of it.
