900t woe,longish!

Okay group, Jumped in,buckled up,turned the key and heard this "bam" and then a continuous clatter from engine compartment. Also noticed something
flapping at drivers side shaft. Clutch seemed to engage And shift to all gears{this relates to my fears:-)} but rocket wouldn't move to or fro.
We're 70 yrs. along and have owned this fast '86 900t since early 2002,
purchased it on ebay for $1000.00. No major problems until about a year ago
when we pulled off the hood, consulted this group, our Bentley and the LORD above and replaced the clutch. So naturally we thought that our amateur job had failed, but now we are not so sure. We're kind of isolated from
many saab'ers and saab mechanics here in southwest Alabama but have aseveral crackerjack mechanicsas friends. We're not experts but are mechanically inclined, have tools, and follow directions well. also have the help of a 16 yr. old son, when we can get his attention :-D, also plenty of time and patience.
Our questions are: 1. Is this the way a cv joint or drive shaft fails?
2.Is there any other damage that can be caused by this condition or
would it be a simple replacement? 3. Also have a damaged '87 900- 8valve.
Will drive shaft fit 900t?
Waiting patiently once more for your great responses. thanks in advance
George
