Disconnect the battery (NO, REALLY!).
Wait 30 min.
You DID disconnect the battery?
Using a T-25 (might be T-30) TORX driver, unscrew the two screws retaining the airbag to the wheel. Genly pull the bag straight out of the wheel. Disconnect the wires behind the airbag.
Place the airbag someplace safe, out of harms way, metal side DOWN.
Take a 22mm socket, and loosen the bolt.Do not remove it completely yet. While pulling on the wheel, rock it back and forth until it pops off the splines. Take the nut the rest of the way off, and don't lose the washer. THread the wires through the one slot in the back of the wheel, and remove the wheel.
Now, to get it back on, you have to make sure that the clockspring is in the right spot. If you don't you run the risk of the wheel not turning all the way to one side, and possibly breaking the clockspring (contact assembly for airbag & horns).
What you have to do is turn the clockspring gently in one direction until it stops (or you get a lot of resistance), turn it back the other way, counting the turns. Before re-installing the wheel, assuming the car's wheels are pointing straight ahead, set the clockspring to about 1/2 the # of turns.
Good luck!
