Hi there. Wondering if you might be able to help. I'm looking to buy a 1991 Black 900T Convertible. 5 Speed. Just brought it to the Saab mechanic in my area for pre-purchase inspection. Things that are concerning:
1. Leak somewhere above the passenger front window/windshield. The current owner says it leaks only when it's parked on a hill or if he turns abruptly. The passenger front carpet was pretty wet when I drove it this morning.
2. Maybe contributing to the leak, there is rust all along the windshield. Cost quoted by mechanic to fix around $500 not counting replacing windshield itself.
3. The panel between the rear and front passenger window is rusted through. Would need to replace back window. Cost: around $300 (mostly labor).
4. Just found a leak in the trunk. Not sure from where, but there was water in the trunk this morning when we took it to the mechanic. Spare tire well is rust free.
The car also needs some new tires. Just had a bunch of stuff replaced (ignition, clutch, exhaust, fuel pump and some other things). Turbo has recently been overhauled. Roof fairly new in good condition.
I think my biggest concern is the leak in the trunk and the passenger side. They said that diagnosing the leaks could take a while (therefore high labor costs). I'm also concerned for mold/rust developing as a result.
Asking is $3500. I was thinking way below that, but please tell me your opinion. What is a fair price for this car?
Thanks!
