Congrats on the SPG. You're lucky the wiring has already been addressed. It's that years particular achilles heel (next being the typical tranny woes all classics share).
As far as boost, I'd look to the wastegate if there's no obvious vacuum leaks. Search the board for base boost but here's the rundown as I recall: Disconnect the apc solenoid, take her out and floor it in third. The turbo gauge should go to about 1/3 yellow (this is the poor man's way if you don't have a boost gauge). If it's not getting that high, disconnect and tighten (make shorter) the wastegate rod and repeat all until it's at 1/3 yellow. Be sure not to twist anything but the rod or you can damage the diaphragm. Once correct(ish) reconnect apc and vroom.
The only tricky part here is not burning yourself when you adjust the rod so be careful.
