Flush and fill "old time" question

I have a 900S (1989). A few years back in my hometown they flushed and filled the coolant. THey "drove it around town for a couple days"....would that have been with some kind of additive or flush in it? Then drained and filled it I guess. How can I do this myself and, most importantly, what is in the radiator while it's being driven around for a few days? Or is it even worth it?
Thanks very much,
Alec 1989 900S 180,000
