Will my car make it from St. Louis to Chicago? Posted by Dan [Email] (#2459) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dan) on Wed, 5 Nov 2008 03:47:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm in St. Louis for work training and need to get my car a 88 900 turbo back to Chicago. Last night my transmission starting clicking in third gear only, all other gears seemed to work fine with no signs of noise or malfunction. I've had the trans break before and rebuilt by Erikksson, and this is definitely a gear or syncro problem and not a c.v. joint. I searched the data base and it seems some guys have driven around for quite some time with this problem before fixing it. I'm wondering if I should drain the oil and fill it with new before attempting to get this home, or am I dreaming that the car will make the 300 mile trek in the first place. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Dan
p.s. This is my third classic 900 and I have that terrible feeling that this is my last. The bad part is the car has only 130,000 miles. My first one went to 300,000. I know it has a lot of life left in the engine. I guess I'll have to decide if I want to pull the motor again in the cold winter or just part ways. Knowing how to work on these cars seems to be some kind of curse.
