My 87 900 TC started running very hot, and yesterday when I was ensnared in the beginnings of rush hour traffic getting on the freeway and crossing the bay bridge from SF to Oakland the temp. gauge actually briefly entered the red. The cooling fans were not coming on, and the fuse isn't blown. However, it was pretty cool yesterday, and even on the way in, sailing along with little traffic, the car was running was running way hotter than ever before, the gauge between 3/4 and 7/8ths. Once I got onto the last span of the bridge and things started moving a little quicker it wasn't hitting the red anymore and I was able to get home.

It seems like the cooling fans should've kicked in, but I also went for a quick 7min. drive last night on the freeway and it got way too hot. I have been hearing this noise that will typically occur about once or twice every time I drive the car lately, sounds like a belt on the driver's side and lasts about 1-2 seconds. Would my water pump dying account for the cooling fans not kicking in?
