Straightforward swap. You will need to re-use the following components from the '92 on the "new" '89 engine:
--air mass meter
--throttle and throttle sensor
--idle control valve
--exhaust manifold, which allows you to continue to use the current exhaust system and cat. Otherwise, you need a new exhaust ('89 and '92 non-turbo systems ain't the same).
NOTE: You do not need to swap out the intake, nor do you need a special distributor -- both the '89 and '92 NA engines use the same crank sensor. (Save the extra sensor for a rainy day -- they're very spendy.) A head swap is unnecessary. Use the donor engine's injectors/fuel rail, etc. The '92 engine's rail won't fit the '89 intake.
If it were my car, I'd at least replace the crank seals, oil pump seal, water pump, alt. bushings, PS pump bushing, & probably some other stuff I'm forgetting at the moment, but that's the gist.
