There's been chatter for ages that adding small portions of ethanol to gas reduces mileage noticably. General complaints vary from 0 - 15% for 10% ethanol.
Is there a true fuel phenomenon here? Does anyone have a pointer to a solid study?
Also, can anyone suggest why adding 10% ethanol might change mileage far out of proportion with the change in BTU content?
(I noticed in the '90s that may 1986 90T got about 10% worse mileage (while driving in CA) on California gas than on Nevada gas. But that was with MTBE, not ethanol, or so I thought.)
