8 valve turbo Exhaust system - help! Posted by camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from camm) on Thu, 10 Sep 2009 06:30:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So, my '83 900T is in need of an exhaust system from the cat back. I attempted to order a full cat-back 8 valve exhaust kit from a site sponsor (the only one with these parts at all, mind you) but was informed after a few days that some of the parts (including the muffler) are simply no longer available. The folks at the local big chain muffler shops, which I wasn't inclined to patronize anyways, don't seem able to come through either.
Prior to this, I had a DIY straight pipe from the cat back (no muffler) I welded up with parts-store bends and pipe, and it actually work quite well, as the turbo really kills the harshest parts of the sound - I ended up with a real nice muted burble for an exhaust note, but the construction was pretty crude and the fit left some to be desired. I sought out a muffler shop to bend me a similar, but better, pipe, and got the "we can't do that, modifying an exhaust system's illegal" routine.
Anyone have suggestions or the inside track on an 8v muffler and pipe? I'm considering buying some mandrel bent j's and u's online and redoing the DIY pipe with greater detail this time, but I'm open to anything.
Thanks.
