Port side cooling fan not working, starboard fine. ???? Posted by gfreshski1 [Email] (#1116) [Profile/Gallery] (more from gfreshski1) on Fri, 18 Sep 2009 16:47:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The passenger side cooling fan in my '92 900 T is not running. I just noticed this a couple of days ago, because usually I wait until both fans stop running before I shut off my engine. (it has a certain sound, you know)
I've been using my A/C lately due to the fact that it has been warm in SoCal.
I realized its been taking MUCH longer to get the coolant temp down, and sometimes it doesn't get low enough to get the passenger side fan to stop. So, I've been opening the hood to let the engine compartment vent more heat before shutting down. It's my understanding that allowing the engine and turbo to cool down before engine shut down is vitally important for longevity.
I've been checking the archives, but I still have unanswered questions:
1) Is the driver's side cooling fan the aux fan or the main fan?
2) Does the driver's side cooling fan cool the turbo-charger?
3) Is there a way to troubleshoot the driver's side cooling fan so that I can at least rule out whether it is the fan motor or perhaps a wire or fuse?
It looks like, according to my Bentley manual, I can troubleshoot the passenger side fan (I'm guessing that's the main?)
Thanks all for any feedback.
