If you are talking about the rubber boot, I have never had one leak provided that it was in good shape and not slit or broken from age. I have always used worm gear clamps that were originally installed on 900's and 99's when replacing rubber boots. I don't use any sealants or silicone when replacing them. Last year, I reused the original worm gear clamps that were still in good shape with new rubber boots when I did my inner driver job and have not had any leaks. Ditto with an earlier 900 and three 99's concerning rubber boots and worm drive clamps. If you have it apart, try replacing the inexpensive rubber boots and replace your clamps if they look shot. I hope this helps and good luck with your project.
