The oil comes from the engine (go figure)lol. But it is the shaft that gets worn and some oil manage to sneak by but it could also be that the whole engine is tired and that the PCV system is not capable of holding neutral to slight vacuum inside valve cover.
If piston rings have too much blow by you will get more pressure inside the engine and that can push oil out wherever it finds a weak spot.
