I've seen the special tool and, yes it is nice. I'll bet, if you know someone near you with the too, it would be worth borrowing.. . I'm not sure it is worth the price, if you can find it. Anyone who has it will usually not sell it, as it is highly prized.
You can mimic what the tool douse using a BMscrewdriver and some large nuts.
Let me know if you need the procedure, or just search the board, I think it is called the "3 Fat Nuts" method.
Buy the clutch ring - spacer tool wherever, like EEuro has it for about 10 bucks.
I usually just use the 2 seat belt bolts (one on each side) to space the clange to allow insertion of the clutch spacer tool. What I do is
1. Pull off of the pilot shaft cap, remove pilot shaft by unscrewing the plastic propellor and screing a bolt into the threaded end vacated by the propellor. A prybar locked onto the bolt head and steady pressure should pop the pilot shaft out. You shouldn't have to remove the radiator, just slide the shaft out as much as you can.
2. loosen the 3 hex bolts on the slave, (of course remove the plastic clutch cover first) just a cracking should be ok.
3. unbolt all of the pressure plate to flywheel bolts. Take them right out,
4. Take the 2 seatbelt bolts out to use.
5. On the right side of the engine the MF Screwdriver and pry the pressure plate and pry it away enough to insert the head of the seatbelt bolt in there to hold it out. You will see that the fingers are pushed in. Do the same on the other side.
6. Push the clutch ring tool in between the fingers and the flange. Remove the 2 seatbelt bolt heads and the fingers should stay compressed.
7 unbolt the 3 hex nuts on the slave, Pull the clutch out as a unit (Slave, Pressure Plate, and CLutch plate.
If bolts come right out this method works quickly. Of course if you have big nuts or bolt heads available you don't need to use the seatbelt bolts, and this is the preferred methos. I just know the seat belt bolt heads are the right size.
