I ran a Cooper S in SCCA C sedan in early 70's : Cast Iron everything, 3 main crank, Flat tappets, 3 ex ports 2 intake.. Trans box as the sump, differential bushings rather than bearings . Oil Shear degradation was horrific. Oil lasted a weekend race session ONLY, you could feel it in the loss of shift quality. Castrol R (yes Bean Oil) was MUCH better at Shear ..the trans gears just chewed the hell out of the oil V quickly. But "R" turned to jelly when the ambient temps were below say 60 degrees (memory :-)) so it had a complication as well.
I have a 'Current model' Honda 600rr and a 81 Yama rd350lc 2 stroke in my garage.
The Honda uses Honda GN4 oil..well Dohh! and not just for warranty reasons. That's one seriously sophisticated/complex motor .. 125 hp out of 599cc.
My 350 uses GL$ 75/85 Gear oil in it's transbox simply because it works better (note.. that 'gear oils' Use an entirely different viscosity index than Motor oils and 75/85 is virtually the same viscosty than 10/30 engine oil... true)
The GL4 replaced Yamalube 10/40 in the trans, because as the engine warmed, neutral became increasingly difficult to find A serious and often dangerous issue on a sequential shift box. GL4 eliminated that problem entirely. In fact the shifting on the ancient Yama is Loads faster slicker than my Hondas' and It has OEM undercut dogs (google :-) for an alleged v good shift action , as typified by all honda machinery. But there's NO adding DIY additives as the trans and engine share the same oil... (See the Sophisticated and V expensive line above)
Honestly don't know what effect Zinc has , but it's going to take a bit more convincing than some "web Page" babble.
